 (FDS) is a caring, non-religious organisation which provides non-judgmental, non-directive support and information for families and friends of drug and/or alcohol users across Australia. Support services and programmes for families of drug dependents are recognised gaps in most drug treatment services. Since 1997, Family Drug Support has successfully provided programmes in this area.

Payroll and Accounts Officer – Family Drug Support

Job Type: Full Time

Location: Faulconbridge, NSW

FDS is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll and Accounts Officer to join our Head Office team in Faulconbridge, NSW. This full-time position plays a vital role in supporting the financial operations of the organisation and works closely with the CEO and Business Manager.

This role is ideal for someone with proven experience in bookkeeping or financial administration, who thrives in a team environment and is capable of working independently.

Responsibilities:

  • Process fortnightly payroll, including superannuation contributions
  • Respond to employee payroll-related queries
  • Prepare and reconcile accounts
  • Process invoices and expense claims
  • Monitor debtor and creditor accounts and follow up where required
  • Assist with BAS, IAS, and liaise with external accounting providers
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Support management with financial reporting and related queries
  • Undertake other finance-related duties as required

 Essential Criteria:

  • Demonstrated experience in bookkeeping or a related role
  • Excellent knowledge of MYOB and Xero accounting software
  • Sound knowledge of BAS, payroll and Australian taxation requirements
  • Strong organisational and multitasking abilities
  • High level attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Remuneration

Remuneration is in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, Level 4, commensurate with skills and experience. Superannuation and salary packaging options are available. A mobile phone will be provided for business use.

Non-Executive Directors – Family Drug Support

The Organisation 

Family Drug Support was established in 1997 to assist families throughout Australia to deal with alcohol and other drugs issues in a way that strengthens relationships and achieves positive outcomes. It does this in a variety of ways including

  • 24/7 telephone support
  • Support groups
  • Information and education programmes
  • Raising the awareness of the role of families and friends 
  • Advocating harm minimisation strategies

Funding for Family Drug Support services is primarily from Federal and State Governments.

Time Commitment

It is expected that directors will allow for the following time commitments: 

  • Board Meetings – Directors are required to attend all board meetings. Usually, five meetings each year. Preparation time is required before the actual meeting day. 

Email is a major method of communication between the Board and Management. 

Directors are expected to understand the FDS model and services.

Directors are also expected to undertake activities that would contribute to their continuing professional development. 

Selection Criteria 

Family Drug Support is seeking applications for up to two Non- Executive Directors (NED), with the skills and experience set out below. 

  1. Social media

Experience in leveraging social media platforms to enhance the visibility and engagement of the FDS’ mission and services. 

  1. Finance 

Ability to analyse key financial statements, critically assess financial performance and contribute to financial planning.

  1. Communications

A strong background in communications, including public relations.

  1. Knowledge of relevant laws and regulatory frameworks applicable to a not-for-profit  social services organisation. 
  1. In addition, all applicants should possess the following:
  • Knowledge of Director duties and responsibilities.
  • Experience in and well-developed understanding of Board Governance 
  • Well-developed listening and communication skills with a collaborative approach in making an active contribution to board discussion and decisions. 
  • Commitment and ability to participate in Board activities 
  • Ability to work effectively in a group including interpersonal skills and the ability to empathise with others.
  • Ability to negotiate and be assertive where necessary.
  • Leadership skills.

This is a volunteer role. 

There is a Board Professional Development Budget available for appropriate and relevant education/conferences.
